If you haven't seen it yet, definitely check out web entrepreneur/multi-media artist Josh Harris' trailer for his new documentary We Live In Public. It's a socio-political and artistic experiment that looks at what happens as we propel ourselves into lives that are on perpetual public display via the web. Eight years in the making, the million dollar project hooks up 32 web cams in a Manhattan loft that's set up bunker-style and records the lives of a 100 volunteer artists/guinea pigs while discussing the implications of the project as it d/evolves into madness. It asks the question: Will we survive in public?
"The pre-recorded performance will include all of the tracks from "In Rainbows" plus some "other bits" as Thom says."

Couple of more things about me.
It's great to hang out with a bunch of young and hip folks like the members of The MIX. Kinda like being at the right place at the right time. I like to throw my experience in the fray every now and then, but, realistically - I KNOW - when it came to break dancing, throwing a funky beat, creating a work of art, or doing some serious acting and stage play, I would be on the side lines - the viewer, like anyone else.
I have friends who are very driven at what they do. Sometimes I feel like I brought a hand mixer to a "Will it Blend" exhibition. When that happens, I smile, become part of the background, and just count my blessings that I got this close to the action.
Being invited to be the First Blogger is a great accolade, giving to me by the S&Z. Almost feel like it's my turn at the piano after Alicia Keys, Marsha Ball, George Winston, and Liberace just finished, and my song will be two-finger Jingle Bells in the key of C#.
I like photography, and I have taken some great pictures in my time. I like photo-editing, and I am done some pretty neat stuff with Photoshop, and other tools. I like motorcycles, airplanes, fast cars, bling bling, latest electronics, and music.
But, one thing I have absolutely come to grips with is that I don't desire to be the best at anything. I am not that driven. I had the chance to learn tennis from the same coaches that taught Zina Garrison in Houston back in the 80's, but when I saw the dedication that was required to be top in the field, I had to resign. I didn't want to be pro, just get better.
Anyway, this isn't a downer blog, just a cynical one. What I do know is that I am good (very good) at a hell of a lot of things, but not the best at anything. I'm ok with that!
Hello, my name is Derek (MIX username FLYDDW) and I currently live in Phoenix, AZ, but I've lived most of my life in Houston, TX, with a 3 year stay over in NJ. I found Jetsetshow (Now called Epic-FU) while trying to find things to pass time during my long (and sometimes boring) shift as a system administrator. I started first with the Scriggity show, where I think I heard reference to this show. Podcasts weren't a new thing to me, but well done podcasts were.
I've been around computers for a long time - watching it progress from teletype pictures of Snoopy, thru block B/W graphics of the TRS-80, beeps and buzzes of Apple ][ - to the very powerful level of systems today.
About 3-5 years ago, computers got to the point where very creative people started taking computers and tech equipment out of the hands of very big companies, and using them for more personable things. They filmed, starred in, cut, edited, and produced some very quality programs. Having the internet to push all that stuff around outside of mainstream also helped tremendously.
Enter Epic-FU. You can see the work that they put into each show. Zadi and Steve seem to love what do, and it shows. The creativity was outstanding, and they had a unique perspective to everything.
Our friend Ajit sent us this video through the submission form. It's a completely charmingly told story, well worth checking out. He writes on the blog post entry:

We have some amazingly interesting friends. Take our friend Bre Pettis for instance... who else of all the people we know would laser the 2008 calendar right onto their thumbnail? No one we can think of - except for his friend Martin apparently.
I could see this being useful for a personal countdown... difficult to forget something when it's etched on your fingernails... And if not that, well, it's definitely a conversation starter. :)

Check out the Holiday Sweater Song music video our friends at Indy Mogul made - a whole bunch of our friends are in it. It was written, directed and edited by Justin Johnson and the music and half of the lyrics were written by Steve Nelson. We TOTALLY missed the deadline in sending in our holiday sweater portion - but the video turned out great. Happy Holidays! :)
If you haven't checked it out yet, makes sure to download the free 8bitpeoples 8 Bits of Christmas album. 8 songs, composed by 8 chiptune artists, on 8 different videogame consoles. It was made in 2003, but is still one of the only holiday chiptune albums out there.

I just discovered Simone White's new song "Christmas Makes Me Blue." Simone is a Hawaii native now living in Venice, California. Her voice is melancholy and fragile. I just started using imeem for music and it's actually very cool. After signing a deal with Universal last week, they now have agreements with all 4 major labels, so they have a huge library of full-length songs you can stream and embed on your blog, Myspace, Facebook, etc. The nice thing about this vs. Seeqpod is you don't have to worry about the song disappearing off a random sever.
It also gives me a great platform to showcase cool music on the blog. Here's a bunch of stuff I'm listening to right now. The Nada Surf song is from their unreleased album Lucky due in February.

Me and my brother went to an Art musium today (because were art freaks and have nothing better to do) and we came across a painting of a while canvass with three colored lines going down across it (Blue Black and Green.. I think). We were trying to think of meaning of it without looking at the little info card and we came up with compleat opposit meanings which were absolutly different from the card. Which brings me to my "Experiment"There is a meaning behind this (my meaning) but I want to you come up with you think it is. Ready. Set. Post.

Last night we had an amazing get together with video peeps in Los Angeles. Originally our intention was to get a few friends together and shoot them doing interpretations of some of the craziest, weirdest, best comments we've gotten on EPIC-FU shows in 2007. Before we knew it, we had thirty people saying they wanted to come, so we said screw it, let's just throw a holiday party. We also shot lots of video. :)

We've been wanting to add a blog to accompany the show for quite some time now, but have been thinking of ways it can be different from all of the other blogs we see out there. We want it to be a little more personal, have it make a little more sense in relation to the show, and to push what we do here a little farther out onto the edge. Yes, you know we like that edge...
